Ongwediva - The Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) emerged as the winner of the Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust’s special media cooking demonstration held on 23 August 2026 at the Fisheries Hall.

The cooking demonstration brought together media partners in a fun and interactive cook-off designed to give journalists and media practitioners a first-hand experience of preparing fish while gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges that households may face when preparing fish at home. The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Oshana Regional Office emerged as the runner-up, while Shipi FM secured third place.

As part of the challenge, each participating media house received a mystery box containing three commonly consumed household fish species, either Horse Mackerel, the Trust’s flagship product; Baby Hake or Silver Angel. The fish species were randomly allocated to the participants, adding an element of surprise and creativity to the demonstration.
NBC was tasked with preparing Baby Hake and impressed the judges with a creative Baby Hake stir-fry. MICT prepared steamed Horse Mackerel, while Shipi FM showcased deep-fried Silver Angel.

The cook-off was not only about competition, but also served as an educational experience. Participants were encouraged to explore simple and practical ways of preparing fish using methods that can easily be replicated in ordinary households.
NFCPT Mr. Chef Abner Nambandi was on hand throughout the demonstration to provide technical guidance and assistance whenever participants required support. His involvement ensured that the media participants could confidently navigate the preparation process while still taking ownership of their dishes.
As a token of appreciation for their participation and continued partnership, all participating media houses received NFCPT gift bags and cooked fish vouchers.
